Cape Fear Council of Governments (Treasurer)

Born and raised in New Hanover County, Charlie Rivenbark was first elected to the Wilmington City Council in 1993. Charlie graduated from New Hanover High School in 1967 and enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 21, 1969. In 1971, following a tour in Vietnam with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade, Charlie was Honorably discharged as a Sergeant E-5-11B40 Infantry and enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Charlie owned and operated several local restaurants until entering Commercial Real Estate in 2004 with Maus, Warwick, Matthews & Co. and is currently with Cape Fear Commercial as Senior Vice President. He was elected to the Wilmington City Council for his first term in 1993, again in 1997 for a second term. In 2009 and 2013 he was elected once again for another four-year term. He serves as the Council's Representative to the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Board of Directors and also to the Board of Wilmington Downtown Inc.

Charlie was selected as an Officer in 2001 for the North Carolina Azalea Festival after years of Committee Service and served as President of the Festival in 2007. For the last 20 years, Charlie has been a weekly volunteer reader at a local elementary school. He has two sons, Chad and Travis, and two grandchildren, Greyson and Molly Lynne.
